My Generation
It’s really suprising to find out how different the approach the exams is here. Everybody is stressed alright, but almost everyone finds an excuse to be jovial, ranging even from the most trivial thing of meeting up after the rather long easter break.
2 days from D-days, to all the teachers that said that the A levels were the hardest exams to take, please burn in hell ( joking, i love my teachers too much).
So much has taken place over the course of easter, most of them quite joyful, but as easter draws to a close, agony begins to pick up as the pace of revision is simply blistering: imagine a schedule as follows:
0830hrs: Reveille
0900hrs: Breakfast
0930hrs: Study
1300hrs: Lunch Break
1500Hrs: Study
1800hrs:Dinner Break
1830hrs: Study
0000hrs: Lights off
14 hours of study daily. wow. i’m only blogging right now in the library because im semi done with studying for the night. to thing about it, it has been a rather luxurious day with me taking abit more time off study to just let my weary mind wander.
After a traditionally crap Ramsay dinner, michelle and i decided to take a short stroll through Gordon Square and Travistock garden: of course, this is the benefit of studying in a country that DOES believe in setting aside green spaces.
the conversation between mimi and i, of course, when we are in such situations, tend to be absolutely ridiculous and hilarious, and we somehow manage to find out something new and weird about each other.
this time, well, lets say i was absolutely shocked to hear what michelle let slip from her usually controlled mouth hahaha….
even from her first question (paraphrased for clarity ) : bert, are you turned on by girls having their period
WTF? the whole of london almost held their breath while i pondered how to respond. and well, my respond was, as many of you could have guessed: WHAT THE F***????????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok well back to revisions
Friday the 13th
Studying can be so much fun wahaha… what irony.
Crazy things that took place over the last few days:
1. Tony Blair Blames the BLACK community for the shootings in London - what sensitivity!
2. UK set to put in place the Sarah Laws, to publicly name known Paedophiles in the area: so what are you going to do? shift away?
3. heard in the UCL Science library… “oh you know… the guy who was arrested for attempting to blow up the american embassy? he shares the same surname as me” SERIOUSLY? dude… UCAS seriously needs to relook its undergraduate application, think about the quality of the degrees UK universities are awarding, not to mention the safety of other students. But Honestly, that guy can go dig a hole, nono wait, that guy can just blow himself. haha he would have to break his back to do so though.
hmmm i was actually thinking of listing down the people that i really look forward to meeting online, especially those in Singapore and the ONE in the states, she knows who she is, but yeah… too many to list, love to all.
Easter!
Happy Belated Easter to Everyone!
yes yes i spent my entire holy week here in London, and suprise suprise…. it was so Sunny all of a sudden. It really sucks when the sun is just beginning to come out when we are all mugging our asses off.
Carm had the liberty of reminding me that i missed the gigantic potatoes in curry back home, sigh.If that girl was here, i would have thrown bowls and bowls of mashed potato at her.
This easter is particularly special to a particular INGRID!!! hahaha… who was baptised at easter vigil at newman house. Congrats to you leng lui… the video was extremely hilarious
Photos will come in time to come. Time to study!!!
post note: Jialing.. you are under lost innocence because you have lost it once you to know me
Cheers to all study hard!
Behold!Behold!The wood of the cross
On which is hung our salvation
I was talking to Ernest just now, mentioning about the fact that this would be the first holy week i will be spending away from home and actually studying. Easter won’t be the same without the curry and the rushing to places. Maundy thursday and Good Friday won’t be thesame without having to see the friends at church and actually wanting to be an altar boy all over again.
I guess i dare say that it is during the period of Holy Week that one would feel closer to God. to me, the ceremony and rituals that date back centuries are of particular interest. The fact that the bells “fall silent” after the gloria on thursday to the celebration of the passion of the lord.
Today’s sermon was one about people, and how we live our lives. Lives are defined by lives. Corruptible as they may seem, life without affecting another life is not living life at all. How have we touched the people around us, how would we want to be remembered.
One great man died for our sins and his grave is revered by billions the world around, even though he died over 2 thousand years ago, how would each of us be remembered? Yes that marble headstone will last 100 years, but what kind of legacy would each of leave behind? how would our family remember us?
How would i be remembered?
on a related topic, each holy week i contemplate on the choices that i have made in the last year, and those that i have yet to make, especially that particular question.
How would i be remembered? To have Fathered? or Father
Let thy will be done
Pacem to all this easter.
Mel: was great to see you down in london again, pleasure was all mine, it looks like you have lost so much weight
Nyd: how are you girl? u are always not online when i am
Pris: We need to talk more!!!
Mimi and Jiaaa: i need a break from sanity!!!
The Heart of Men – Reflection this Holy Thursday
God created man in his own image, but perhaps the greatest flaw, and ironically the greatest beauty of the creation of men is his heart.
Mens’ Heart, the source to the greatest power man will ever lay his hands on: love
there are various levels of love, but we will not dwell on that, we need to question this power. In most literature, love is portrayed as a positive influence: a mother’s love can for instance, drive a mother to great lengths just so to protect her child, cinematic-ally, who can deny not seeing a clichéd moment when a mother suddenly jerks from near death just to protect her child, and dies once the job is done; then there is the love that is passionate, between lovers.
History has been the quiet witness to so many happily ever afters, and an equal number of tragic endings. As we hear the tales of Cinderella in our formation years, we hear the tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet. it is almost sad to witness the corruptible nature of the human heart as we age.
what does the heart desire?
Love? Power? Sex? Recognition? Riches?
what does your heart hide even from yourself?
Man’s heart is corruptible. Perhaps, God created this flaw for a reason. i just told a friend that a life where everything goes to plan is not a life worth living. Perhaps its just god trying to create a form of entertainment for himself hah!
i crave for success for various reasons, good reasons i believe and i crave for acceptance.
I wonder how long i can stay true, will my heart fail?
